Search tips

We want you to find the documents you need as quickly as possible ...

... which is why we are constantly improving the efficiency of our search functions: Now you can restrict your search to exactly the type of product you are looking for, be it a standard, book or seminar.

  • New filter functions: Restrict your search using various filters so you can quickly find the titles you need.
  • New sorting function: Now your search results will be better sorted according to relevance, based on the search terms you used. The most relevant hits will be listed right at the top.
  • New design: Search results are more clearly structured, giving you a better overview.

How to use the new Beuth search functions

Our new search functions help you get better results.

  • General searches
  • Advanced searches
  • Refining searches
  • Historical (withdrawn) documents
  • Currency of documents

General searches

Use the search field which appears at the top left of every page of the website to find any item in the Beuth web shop, including national, European and international documents, book titles and events such as DIN Seminars and Conferences.

Use the asterisk (*) to truncate your search: This means that (*) can stand for one or more characters (letters or numbers) in your search term. The asterisk can be placed at the beginning, middle or end of a term. For example, enter "machine*" to retrieve entries containing the words "machine", "machines", "machinery", etc.

You can link several terms in your search as follows:

  • use "und" (German for "and") or a space if BOTH terms must be included in an entry.
  • use "oder" (German for "or") or "|" if only ONE of the terms must be included in an entry.

Example: Search for "paper format"
(here both the terms "paper" and "format" must be included in the entry)

Example: "paper format"

Search tips 1

On the left side, your search results of items for the key words "paper" AND "format" will be listed according to document type. These can be:

  • "standards",
  • "foreign standards" (i.e. published outside Germany),
  • "national standards" (i.e. published within Germany),
  • "Regul. Techn. Docs" (i.e. legislation related to technology),
  • "publications" (other than standards or technical rules, e.g. books, handbooks, etc.),
  • "DIN Handbooks",
  • "loose-leaf publications",
  • "online services", and
  • "info material" (i.e. informative material on a product).

You can further refine your search by type of document ("content"), category, language, publisher, and whether the item is new or planned (see 'Refining searches' for more information).

The bilbiographic entry for each product includes the following information:

  • Document number or title of publication
  • Publication date
  • The original language the document was published in
  • Any other language versions
  • " Other products the document is contained in ("also avail in")
  • A link to the table of contents
OR a list of documents contained in that product
  • The price for downloading the document (registration as myBeuth customer necessary, incl. VAT)
  • The price for shipping a hard copy to you ("Shipment") (incl. VAT but not including shipping and handling)
  • "Sub": If you have a subscription at Beuth (registered myBeuth customers only) check here to include the item in your subscription.

Search tips 2

If the number of search results of a general search is very high you can use the "Advanced search" function to limit the number of hits. NOTE: Registration as a myBeuth customer necessary!

Use one or more of the following fields to limit your search:

  • Search: Enter any search terms such as keywords, truncated words (using the * as a truncation sign) or numbers here. This field is not case-sensitive, i.e. it does not matter whether letters are capitalized or not.
  • Document number: Here, enter the full document number (the abbreviations and the number, e.g. DIN EN ISO 9001) or just the number (e.g. 9001)
  • Publication date: Enter the date as YY-MM
  • Documents: Use the pull-down menu to select a document collection such as DIN, ISO, VDI etc.
  • Content: Here you can limit your search to "standards only", "publications only" (e.g. books or DIN Handbooks, etc.) - see list under 'General searches'
  • Results per page: You can limit the number of results shown on a page to 10, 20, 50 or 100. See 'Refining searches' to find out how you can further limit your search.

Refining searches

Use the filters to the left of the screen to refine your search. Click on the filter of your choice and the search results will be reduced to the relevant hits only.

Search tips 3

Note that only the filters that are relevant to your search will be listed.

The selected filters are then listed at the top list under "Your refinements". To remove the filter click on or click "remove all".

Items may be listed under more than one filter, e.g. under product type "Publications" and the category "Building and civil engineering".

Search tips 5

Historical (withdrawn) documents

All DIN Standards which have been withdrawn since 1978 can be searched and ordered, with the exception of draft standards and pre-standards. Each page of a withdrawn document is stamped with the word "zurückgezogen" (German for "withdrawn"). Paper copies of all documents are available; most can also be downloaded online. Please note that registration as a myBeuth customer is required.

Search tips 6

Click on the link "Search for withdrawn documents" to use one or more of the following search fields:

  • Document number: Here, enter the full document number (the abbreviations and the number, e.g. DIN EN ISO 9001) or just the number (e.g. 9001)
  • Publication date: Enter the date as YY-MM
  • Documents: Use the pull-down menu to select a document collection such as DIN, ISO, VDI etc.
  • Results per page: You can limit the number of results shown on a page to 10, 20, 50 or 100

You can then use the filters to the left to further refine your search (see above).

Currency of documents

Search tips 7

Click on the link "Checking the currency of standards" to check the currency of a specific edition of a document (i.e. to see if it has been withdrawn or not) using one or more of the following fields:

  • Document number: If you wish to check which edition of a standard is the currently valid one, enter the full document number (the abbreviations and the number, e.g. DIN EN ISO 9001) or just the number (e.g. 9001)
  • Publication date: If you wish to check the validity of a specific edition, also enter the publication date as YYYY-MM. Please note: This differs from the date format used for other functions on the web site!

Example: "DIN 28054-2"

Result: The message "The document you wished to retrieve has been withdrawn. The document or documents which now supersede it are shown below." is displayed. The bibliographic information for the replacement document, DIN EN 14879-2, is shown and the document can be ordered from here. (In this case, the replacement document has a different number.)

If the standard has been withdrawn without replacement you will receive a message to this effect.

If you do not search for a specific edition, the most current edition of the document will be displayed.
