Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This European Standard specifies the requirements, test methods, marking and information to be provided by the manufacturer/supplier for suspended access equipment (SAE). It is applicable to both permanent and temporary equipment which may be powered or hand-operated. The requirements of this standard include the rails, tracks and other support systems on which SAE depend for their integrity and safety as well as taking into account all associated loads and fixings to the building structure. This European Standard deals with significant hazards pertinent to SAE when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. This European Standard describes appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards. This standard contains the German version of EN 1808:215 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 98 "Lifting platforms" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 1808: 2010-11 as follows: 1) Clause 6: Safety coefficients, limit values for aluminium, additional load cases; 2) supplemented in Clause 6: Reduction of maximum working load WLL of hoists, requirements for load hoists, loads on the building; 3) supplemented in Clause 7: Fall protection systems, minimum height of support brackets; 4) 7.7: Requirements for guidance systems; 5) supplemented in 8.12: Material (auxiliary) hoists; 6) Subclause 10.3: Mains voltage protection; 7) Subclause 11.4: Safety-related components of control systems for power operated installations; 8) supplemented in 11.5: Wireless control systems; 9) supplemented in 12.3: Verification of installation of safety critical track support and fastening devices; 10) 12.4: Verification of BMU systems on site; 11) Clause 13: Marking of SAE according to the new Machinery Directive; 12) Clause 14: Accompanying documentation according to the new Machinery Directive; 13) B.3.1 Testing of fatigue strength for hoists; 14) Supplemented in Annex D: Instructions for the presentation and evaluation of loads applied by SAE structures; 15) supplemented in Annex E: Maximum permissible horizontal deflection of a PAM; 16) supplemented in Annex F: Instructions for the requirements of wireless control systems; 17) supplemented in Annex G: Instructions for the design requirements of rails, single rails and support systems. The national interests during the preparation of the standard are represented by Committee NA 060-22-27 AA "Hängende Personenaufnahmemittel" ("Suspended access equipment") at Technical Section "Fördertechnik" ("Conveyor technology") of the Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of suspended access equipment, as well as of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of the standard.
