This Technical Specification describes a general procedure for sampling and determining the concentration of gaseous sulphur dioxide (SO2) in emissions from ducts. This procedure underlies instrumental analysis techniques, but no specific technical procedure is defined. Instead, the minimum requirements for the analyser and the associated sampling equipment, namely for the entire measuring system, are described. The process parameters shall meet these minimum requirements. In addition, requirements and recommendations for continuous quality assurance and quality control are specified and described. When using the measurement method described in this Technical Specification as an alternative method (AM) to the standard reference method (SRM), the process parameters shall be determined by an independent test laboratory in a general suitability test according to the test procedures described in EN 15267-4. This also includes the proof of equivalence to the SRM according to DIN EN 14793. The measurement method described in this Technical Specification has not been validated, nor has its equivalence to the SRM specified in DIN EN 14791 been demonstrated. Therefore, this should be coordinated with the client and, if required, the competent authority in advance if the measurement procedure is to be used within the scope of periodic emission measurements or calibrations of automatic measuring systems (AMS), which are permanently installed on an exhaust gas duct for regulatory or other reasons. This Technical Specification is addressed in particular to manufacturers of measuring equipment for periodic and continuous measurements of emissions from stationary sources, to test institutes that carry out performance tests of such measuring equipment, and to authorities responsible for emission monitoring. This Technical Specification deals in particular with aspects of environmental protection and quality control in emission monitoring. Committee NA 134-04-03-10 UA "Emissionsüberwachung mit automatischen Einrichtungen" ("Emission monitoring of automatic systems") at DIN is responsible for this Technical Specification.
