Short description
The present guideline is a proposal for evaluating the vibratory state of reciprocating piston engines. It includes instructions for the measurements to be taken and approximate values for the range within which the characteristic quantity to be defined should be.*Only vibrations generated by the machines proper are evaluated, none induced from outside.*The guideline generally applies to reciprocating piston engines and piston compressors, mounted rigidly and resiliently, with a power output or input as from 100 kW and up to a speed of 3000 rpm. Typical examples of application are: marine propulsion engines, marine auxiliary engines, engines operating in diesel genrator sets, engines for diesel locomotives. The guideline does not apply to engines installed in road vehicles (e.g. trucks, passenger cars, self-propelled construction machinery,* and tractors), generally provided with resilient mounting; neither does it apply to the machinery combined with the reciprocating piston engines.
