Overview

The standard DIN EN ISO 4787 specifies methods for the testing, calibration and use of volumetric instruments made from glass in order to obtain the best accuracy in use. The volumetric instruments are mainly used in laboratories; the users in the laboratories are the main target groups of this standard. The procedures are applicable to volumetric instruments with nominal capacities in the range of 0.1 ml to 5 000 ml. They are applicable to single-volume pipettes without graduation (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 648), to graduated measuring pipettes and dilution pipettes (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 835), to burettes (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 385), to volumetric flasks (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 1042) and to graduated measuring cylinders (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 4788). The procedures are not recommended for testing volumetric instruments with nominal capacities below 0.1 ml, such as microglassware. The International standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 48 "Laborausrüstungen" ("Laboratory equipment"), in collaboration with CEN/TC 332 "Laboratory equipment"; the secretariats of both Committees are held by DIN. Working Committee "Volumenmessgeräte" ("Volumetric instruments"), which is responsible for the preparation of this standard, is German Mirror Committee. With the preparation of this standard the comprehensive standard series on volumetric instruments which has been prepared and updated in recent years and which is valid internationally and in Europe is now complete.
