This standard specifies an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) method for the determination of the nickel (Ni) content in the range of about 4 mg/kg to 55 mg/kg and of the vanadium (V) content in the range of about 4 mg/kg to 150 mg/kg in fuel oils and residual fuel oils. The method is also applicable to other concentration ranges, however, there are no precision dates available for those ranges. The method in this standard is based on DIN 51790-6. It has been developed originally as an alternative to the second part of DIN EN 13131 and is more and more employed as an instrumental technique in analytical laboratories. For this reason it was decided to use this method now as a stand-alone method. The European Standard EN 15944:2010 has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 19 "Gaseous and liquid fuels, lubricants and related products of petroleum, synthetic and biological origin". The responsible German Committee is Working Committee NA 062-06-11 AA "Atomspektrometrie" ("Atomic spectrometry") of the Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products Standardization Committee (FAM) of NMP.
This document replaces DIN 51790-6:2007-11 .
