Overview

This standard classifies and differentiates the usable areas and technical areas according to functions that are specific to hospitals. Calculation of such surface areas is set out in DIN 277-1. DIN 13080 is applicable to hospitals and medical school hospitals and university hospitals of any size. It is also applicable to similar healthcare institutions. This standard does not specify responsibilities, organizational forms, building structures or operational structures. As a result, terms such as department and ward can be left unchanged. It can be used, for instance, to document potential surface area availability and to perform a comparative analysis and assessment (for example, a weak-point analysis), but it can also be used for demand, design and operational planning by serving as a basis for communication between all players involved in each process.
