Overview

The location factors soil and climate influence, in addition to the running, the quality and quantity of the groundwater to various degrees. With regard to preventive groundwater protection, concepts of a location-appropriate running are required which necessitate site classification. The site-specific potential for translocation depends on the quantity and translocation rate of seepage water. In contrast the substance-dependent potential for translocation is controlled, in addition to the input, by solubility, sorption capacity, and persistency of the substance. This standard provides guidance to classify locations (soil and climate) with regard to their risk of substance translocation for the following issues: - definitions of guiding principles for running with the aim of groundwater protection (for example, amount of organic and mineral fertilization for agricultural land use); - exclusion of non-sensitive areas for the transfer of residual and waste materials. Determination of the site-specific material in accordance with this standard only applies to non-sorbable substances (for example, nitrate, sulfate, chloride) which have, on the one hand, high solubility and which are designated, on the other hand, by a low sorption capacity in soils (for example, low anion exchange capacity). Conversion processes, for example, denitrification, mineralization and immobilization, are not considered. For this reason, only the site-dependent potential for translocation is calculated. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 119-01-02-03 UA "Standortbeurteilung" ("Site assessment") at DIN.
