This standard applies to flanges for process vessels (process vessel flanges) which are used as main flanges, for example for separable blade agitators, columns and heat exchangers, or as flanges for manhole closures. These flanges are classified according to the nominal sizes of chemical equipment as in DIN 28105. This standard applies to flanged joints as in: a) DIN 28031 for unpressurized process vessels; b) DIN 28033 and DIN 28034 for pressurized process vessels. They do not apply to pipe connections or valve connections. Pipe flanges according to DIN EN 1092-1 are usually only used for pipe connections and other similar types of connection (for instance, for nozzles and valves). Flanges for process vessels have smaller connecting dimensions than flanges for pipes as in DIN EN 1092-1 and cannot be combined with the latter. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 012-00-01 AA "Anlagenteile" ("Process equipment") of the Chemical Apparatus Standards Committee (FNCA).
This document replaces DIN 28030-1:2003-06 .
