In the current edition of EN 12732, reference is made to two standards in the EN ISO/IEC 17000 family of standards as regards non-destructive (NDT) or destructive (DT) testing (NDT: EN ISO/IEC 17020, DT: EN ISO/IEC 17025). During the preparation of EN 12732 for Formal Vote it became clear that the national accreditation bodies interpret the scope of EN ISO/IEC 17025 very differently. According to some accreditation bodies, NDT is within the scope of EN ISO/IEC 17025 while other accreditation bodies consider the NDT to be covered by the scope of EN ISO/IEC 17020. Since this discrepancy cannot be solved on a short-term basis, this standard refers to both standards (EN ISO/IEC 17020 and EN ISO/IEC 17025) regarding NDT.
