Overview

This standard specifies procedures for the measurement or estimation and the assessment of personal exposures to ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun. These specifications apply to solar UV exposure in the wavelength range from 280 nm to 400 nm for outdoor work or other outdoor exposure. The recommendations of international or European organizations, for example WHO, ICNIRP and EUROSKIN, for protection against harmful solar UV exposure are supported by this standard. If a certain level of solar UV exposure is exceeded, then it may be necessary to take protective measures to avoid injury to the skin and eyes. The standard does not describe sun protection measures, but does contain corresponding instructions. It does not apply to UV exposure caused by artificial UV light sources, for example UV lamps for arc welding.
