The European Standard DIN EN 15982:2011 "Metadata for Learning Opportunities (MLO) - Advertizing" specifies an abstract model for representing Learning Opportunities. This model describes three resources about which metadata can be stored to facilitate advertising of learning opportunities, namely the learning opportunity provider, the abstract description of a learning opportunity and a specific example for this learning opportunity. DIN EN 15982 specifies the characteristics of relations between these three resources and recommends a core set of metadata for each. It supports the requirements of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and the exchange of ECTS information. MLO advertising is a lightweight standard that fits well with existing business processes and technologies. MLO advertising facilitates web architectures to support several mechanisms for exchange of information and aggregation of information by third party service suppliers. DIN EN 15982 has been prepared by CEN/TC 353 "Information and communication technologies for learning, education and training", the secretariat of which is held by UNI (Italy). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 043-01-36 AA "Lerntechnologien" ("Learning technologies") at NIA.
