Overview

This standard specifies the terminology used in relation to sustainably produced biomass for energy applications and which refers to biofuels and bioliquids. Relevant terms and definitions used in the European Commission Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (Renewable Energy Directive (RED)) as well as other European regulations are taken into consideration. This standard shall support common understanding of terms and definitions between economic players, interested parties and the EU. The committee responsible for the standard is NA 172-00-10 AA "Nachhaltigkeitskriterien für Biomasse" ("Sustainability criteria for biomass") at DIN.
