Overview

This standard contains the German version of European standard EN 50492:2008 and its Amendment A1:2014. It specifies measurement methods, measuring systems and the post-processing of measurements taken near base stations. Its purpose is the in-situ determination of electromagnetic fields at base stations with respect to the evaluation of the safety of persons exposed to electromagnetic fields within a frequency range between 100 kHz and 300 GHz. In this case, base stations are stationary devices for radio transmission intended for use in wireless telecommunication networks. It only covers point-to-point and point-to-multipoint transmissions listed in the European Table of Frequency Allocations and Applications in the frequency range between 9 kHz and 275 GHz. In Amendment A1:2014, an Annex L is added describing methods for the measurement and extrapolation of human exposure to electromagnetic fields due to LTE base stations. LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a mobile communication standard with which higher data rates are obtained. For this purpose, frequencies in the range above 790 MHz and between 2,5 GHz and 2,6 GHz are used. An introduction to relevant characteristics of the signals emitted by LTE base stations is followed by the description of two methods for the determination of maximum exposure where one uses a spectrum analyzer and the other uses a designated decoder and an isotropic antenna. In addition, the annex describes optimum settings for the evaluation of instantaneous exposure due to LTE base stations. The responsible committee is DKE/K 764 "Sicherheit in elektromagnetischen Feldern" ("Safety in electromagnetic fields") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
