DIN EN 50566:2013-12

This standard contains the German version of the European Standard EN 50566:2013 with specifications to demonstrate compliance of radio frequency fields from wireless handheld and/or body-mounted communication devices with the basic restrictions (Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)) which are specified for the safety of persons in radio-frequency electromagnetic fields in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 6 GHz. This standard is related to the Council Recommendation of 12 July 1999 on the limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields (0 Hz to 300 GHz) (Official Journal L 197 of 12 July 1999). It does not apply to mobile phones operated near the head. Those are covered by EN 50360 respectively DIN EN 50360 (VDE 0848-360). The associated measurement and calculation methods are described in the European Standard EN 62209-2:2010, the German version of which has been published as DIN EN 62209-2 (VDE 0848-209-1):2011-03. From this standard it can be deduced that hence the following applications or operating modes of wireless communication devices also form the basis in EN 50566:2013: - generic devices, - body-mounted devices, - body-supported devices, - desktop devices, - front-of-face devices, - hand-held devices, - limb-mounted devices, - clothing-integrated devices. Examples are mobile phones for use other than near the head, two-way radios, photo and video cameras, wireless PDAs, headsets, laptops with radio modules and tablets. The responsible committee is DKE/K 764 "Sicherheit in elektromagnetischen Feldern" ("Safety in electromagnetic fields") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
