This standard deals with the safety of commercial electric deep fat fryers including appliances exclusively operating under pressure. The appliances are not intended for household use, their rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances, operated between an outer conductor and the neutral conductor, and 480 V for other appliances. These appliances are used in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and commercial enterprises such as bakeries and butcher's shops. Through Amendment A11:2012 which has been incorporated into the European Standard EN 60335-2-37:2002 + A1:2008, appliances or machines for commercial use with power driven moving parts are brought in line with the Essential Requirements of EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The responsible committee is UK 511.8 "Großküchengeräte" ("Equipment for commercial kitchens") at the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
