This standard specifies the dimensions, characteristics, requirements and tests for M12 circular connectors with up to 17 contacts and screw-locking. These connectors are typically used for industrial process measurement and control. They consist of fixed and free connectors - either rewireable or non-rewireable. The connectors with glass to metal seal are fixed connectors only which consist of fixed glass to metal sealed styles with rewireable male contacts and are intermateable with corresponding free connectors according to this standard. Male connectors have round contacts with diameters of 0,6 mm, 0,76 mm, 0,8 mm and 1,0 mm. Significant modifications with respect to the previous edition of this standard concern the incorporation of glass to metal sealed styles and the removal of the IEC type designation. The responsible committee is DKE/K 651 "Steckverbinder" ("Connector") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
