Part 450 of the International Standard IEC 61162 specifies physical interface requirements as well as protocols and data formats for high speed communication of shipboard navigation and radio-communication equipment and other ship systems that communicate with the previous by means of defined alarm message in accordance with IEC 61162-1 per UDP via ethernet-based LANs between two points. Sensor information such as position data can also be distributed simultaneously to several points per broadcast signalling. The standard is open for the support of other applications (for example, in accordance with IEC 61162-3). The test methods and the required test results are also specified. The responsible committee is K 738 "Elektronische Navigationsinstrumente" ("Electronic navigation equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
