Overview

Amendment to the existing standard. This International Standard applies to electromechanical auxiliary contact units for domestic installations and similar purposes mounted (or intended for mounting) on a circuit-breaker for overcurrent protection, on a residual-current circuit-breaker with or without integral overcurrent protection, with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 VAC and 250 VDC and a rated current not exceeding 10 A. These specifications can also be used as a guideline for auxiliary contact units intended for attachment to other switchgear, household and similar applications. It is recommended to ask the manufacturer for all instructions on low-voltage current applications. IEC 60947-5-4 specifies special requirements for low-voltage current switches. The purpose of this standard is to define the properties of auxiliary contact units, the electrical and mechanical requirements relating to the different functions, the design features and marking, the tests to verify the design features, the functional requirements with which the auxiliary contact units must comply in relation to environmental conditions, including those for packaging, insulation properties, terminals, safety in use. Amendment A12 refers to the basic elements of the safety objectives for electrical equipment intended for use within certain voltage limits. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 541.3 "Fehlerstrom-Schutzeinrichtungen" ("Residual current devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
