Overview

The International Standard series IEC 62321 provides test methods that will allow the electrotechnical industry to determine the concentration of certain substances of concern in electrotechnical products on a globally consistent basis. This part 5 of the standard series specifies the determination of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) in polymers, metals and alloys as well as electronics. This standard describes the application of the four analysis methods AAS (atomic absorption spectrometry), AFS (atomic fluorescence spectrometry), ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectrometry) and ICP-MS (inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry) as well as several sample solution preparation methods. The described methods are characterised by their very high accuracy. Persons using this International Standard should be familiar with normal laboratory practice. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to ensure compliance with any national regulatory conditions. The responsible committee is DKE/K 135 "Erfassung von Stoffen in Produkten der Elektrotechnik" ("Determination of substances in products of the electrotechnical industry") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
