Overview

This second edition of DIN EN 957-6 supersedes DIN EN 957-6:2001-11. DIN EN 957-6 specifies safety requirements and test methods for treadmills in addition to the general safety requirements and test methods of EN 957-1, and shall be read in conjunction with it. EN 957-6 is applicable to power-driven as well as to non-power/manually driven training equipment type treadmills (hereafter referred to as treadmills) with the classes S, H and I and classes A, B and C regarding accuracy. With regard to DIN EN 957-6:2001-11, several specifications, definitions, requirements and test methods have been amended and supplemented, and requirements for the permanent marking of the running surface, endurance testing of equipment of class I, folding treadmills (including test methods), heart rate control mode and test report have been added. Stationary training equipment is defined as equipment that is not moved as a unit during use which either stands on the floor or is attached to a wall, ceiling or other fixed structure. This includes equipment for use in training areas of organizations such as sport associations, education establishments, hotels, clubs and studios (Classes S and I), where access and control is specifically regulated by the owner, and equipment for domestic use (Class H). DIN EN 957-6 is part of a standard series dealing with stationary training equipment and consists of the following parts: - Part 1: General safety requirements and test methods; - Part 2: Strength training equipment, additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 4: Strength training benches, additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 5: Pedal crank training equipment, additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 6: Treadmills, additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 7: Rowing machines, additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 8: Steppers, stairclimbers and climbers - Additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 9: Elliptical trainers, additional specific safety requirements and test methods; - Part 10: Exercise bicycles with a fixed wheel or without freewheel, additional specific safety requirements and test methods. This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 136 "Sports, playground and other recreational facilities and equipment", Working Group WG 4 "Stationary training equipment", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The Committee responsible for this standard is Working Committee NA 112-01-04 AA "Trainingsgeräte" ("Training equipment") at DIN.
