This standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association to provide one means of conforming to essential requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive according to the new concept of EU-Directive 94/25/EC as amended by 2003/44/EC.
This standard defines relevant requirements of the aforementioned Directive relating to recreational craft in Annex I, clause 2.4 "Visibility from the main steering position" and 2.5 "Owner's manual". It provides manufacturers and purchasers of craft with legal security by the highest presumption of conformity with regard to the relevant part of the legal requirements. This standard supersedes the previous document DIN EN ISO 11591:2001.
The committee responsible for this standard is ISO/TC 188/WG 24, which is mirrored by Working Group NA 132-08-01-24 AK "ISO/TC 188/WG 24 Sichtfeld vom Steuerstand" ("Field of vision from helm position").
This document replaces DIN EN ISO 11591:2001-09 .
