Overview

Vehicles with partial or complete electric drives are being developed in order to reduce vehicle energy consumption. A special charging infrastructure is required in order to be able to charge the batteries of these vehicles. While various partial aspects in the standardization of electric vehicles and infrastructure have already been addressed in ISO and IEC, this series of standards deals with the exchange of information between the electric vehicle and the charging infrastructure. Communication is essential for effective vehicle charging and the development of efficient and convenient charging systems. This part of the series of standards specifies general requirements for the communication interface and the safety-related functions.
