Short description
The obligation of producers to take back used electrical and electronic products, and the associated take-back and logistics systems, are regulated by ElektroG. Given the prerequisite (section 9 subs. 9, ElektroG) that the collection and take-back of used equipment should be so carried out that later re-use, disassembly and recycling are not impeded, ElektroG envisages in principle four different disposal routes: 1. Take-back of used equipment from private households via municipal hand-over sites and hand-over to producers' systems in accordance with section 9 subs. 4 and 5, ElektroG; 2. Take-back of used equipment from private households via municipal hand-over sites and independent disposal by the public waste management representatives in accordance with section 9 subs. 6, ElektroG; 3. Take-back of used equipment from private households via distributors or voluntary producers take-back systems in accordance with section 9 subs. 7 and 8, ElektroG; 4. Disposal of used equipment from the commercial sector in accordance with section 10 subs. 2, ElektroG. The objective of this guideline VDI 2343 Part 2 is to provide the involved parties - e.g. ÖRE, system operators, the trade and producers, and also operators of treatment plants with recommendations for the necessary planning and its realisation with regard to the contents and processes of the logistics needed. The creation of structures for the efficient collection of used electrical and electronic products, the operation of collection points and/or hand-over sites and the transport to treatment plants are logistical challenges that should be implemented in compliance with applicable legislation and with attention paid to economic and ecological aspects.
