Short description
The standard series VDI/VDE 3528 provides recommendations on how the design goals of safety-related electrical and I&C systems can be achieved in nuclear power plants. This enables to integrate devices of different qualification depth even if they were not explicitly developed for nuclear power plants. The absence of proofs for a graded qualification depth in order to avoid latent errors, can be compensated by appropriate design of the safety I&C systems and its effects can be tolerated, if each used part of the system is proven as dissimilar. This standard provides recommendations on how to prove this dissimilarity between devices and how to design the necessary basic qualification. The hereby achieved qualification corresponds to the design variant 2 of the VDI/VDE 3528 Part 1. This standard is applicable if the dissimilarity is to be credited as a means for increasing the tolerance to the effects of latent errors.
