Short description
Besides the classical automatic small parts warehouses (AKL) with storage and retrieval machine (SRM) so called "shuttle systems" are used now. This are storage systems for light cargo such as containers, boxes or trays, that are used also outside the storage area for transport. The shuttle systems combines, depending on the system design, the functions "storage" and "promote" and in this standard it is structured and described (in the interest of the small container storage). The performance is compared with other systems, defined and considered with important additional criteria for system selection. The essential feature of the technology is the separation of horizontal transport and vertical transport. Usually, the shuttle vehicles take over the horizontal transport and load absorption and release, while the vertical transport is realized via lifts.
