Short description
It is the objective of this VDI Standard to promote wild bees in the agricultural landscape by establishing wild bee habitats. The standard describes procedures for the promotion of wild bees by the establishment of food habitats and nesting habitats. The main focus of the guideline is on the composition of regional-specific and autochthonous seed mixtures for wild bee pastures and the creation and maintenance of nesting opportunities for soil-breeding wild bee species. This VDI Standard also provides guidance on the selection of suitable sites for the permanent establishment of wild bee pastures and on legal and normative frameworks. In view of the decline in the diversity of wild bees, the standard points out procedures for the long-term promotion of wild bees in the agricultural landscape. In addition, the standard can be used to specifically protect the populations of native wild bee species. The standard VDI 4340 Part 2 is developed as part of the BienABest joint project. The "BienABest" project is funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) in the Federal Programme for Biological Diversity with funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The project is also financially supported by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector Baden-Württemberg, BASF SE, and the Bee Care Center of Bayer AG.
