This standard applies to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of public sanitary facilities, i.e. sanitary facilities in buildings or on premises that are intended to be used by the public in addition to the employees working there, or in buildings constructed specifically for the purpose of using sanitary facilities. Toilet rooms and washrooms, which must be available in accordance with the Workplace Ordinance, do not fall into the category of facilities accessible to the public. Furthermore, sanitary rooms in hotel rooms, sickrooms, dormitories, communal accommodation, etc., are not included in publicly accessible rooms, except for those sanitary rooms in the aforementioned buildings that are provided for visitors. The standard is aimed at sanitary and building services planners, architects, sanitary trades, manufacturers of sanitary appliances.
