Overview

This Technical Specification specifies safety requirements for collaborative industrial robot systems and the work environment, and supplements the requirements and guidance on collaborative industrial robot operation given in ISO 10218-1 and ISO 10218-2. This Technical Specification applies to industrial robot systems as described in ISO 10218-1 and ISO 10218-2. It does not apply to non-industrial robots, although the safety principles presented can be useful to other areas of robotics. This Technical Specification does not apply to collaborative applications designed prior to its publication. The national interests in its preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-38-01 AA "Roboter und Robotikgeräte" ("Robotics" of Technical Section "Roboter und Robotikgeräte" ("Robotics") at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of robots and robotic devices and of the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
