Overview

This standard applies for systems of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) used in stationary and mobile event and production sites as well as scenic productions and scenic architectural lighting applications. This standard applies to LED systems in the visible wavelength range of 380 nm to 780 nm as well as the non-visible IR and UV ranges (only for IR-LED and UV-LED). This standard aims at describing the systems using LED technique, the requirement for the compatibility of the systems and their fitness for use and the hazards and requirements resulting thereof (see DIN EN 62471). This standard applies as a guideline for the use of LED systems and describes the possible models of LED systems consisting of single components or modules. An LED system can consist of a single LED - with separate or integrated power supply unit - or can include one or more LEDs in a complex optical, electrical or mechanical system. Specific measures are required for LED systems from which a hazard may arise: for example, suitable protective measures. These measures are not covered by this standard. System-oriented, sealed LED systems, for example, projection screens and pixel systems, the single components of which are not externally accessible are not dealt with in this standard. If these systems are scenically applied, however, clause 5 "Hazards" of this standard can be applied. This standard does not apply for LEDs in general lighting. This document has been prepared by the Entertainment Technology, Photography and Cinematography Standards Committee (NVBF) at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V., Working Committee NA 149-00-04 AA "Licht- und Medientechnik" ("Lighting- and media technology").
