Overview

Especially in underground coalmining with its difficult and often changing operating conditions, rail transport provides various advantages. Therefore, the simple extensibility and flexibility of the installations, in addition to suitability for deployment at low load bearing capacity of the substrate are also of importance. Flexible design of the rolling stock results in comparably minor restrictions of the material to be conveyed. The standard specifies dimensions and designations of the front wall, casing, frame and buffer sheet of mine cars in accordance with DIN 20550 (mine cars, small size), DIN 20560 (mine cars, middle size) and DIN 20570 (mine cars, large size). Buffer sheets are used to avoid ingress and deposit of coal, mine waste and so on in the open buffer area, which is created due to the safety clearance of 120 mm between the buffer and the front wall edge. The most common front wall shapes with the predominantly used designs (radii, etcetera) are specified and deviating designs, such as two parts with differing sheet thicknesses, are possible. For casings, one-piece design with equivalent sheet thickness or a three-part design with a thicker casing base and a thinner casing surface can be used. The standard has been prepared by NA 008-05-01 AA "Grubenbahnen" ("Mine railways") at FABERG.
