This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-06-51 AA "Anforderungen an Schmieröle und sonstige Öle" ("Requirements for lubricating and other oils") at the Fachausschuss Mineralöl- und Brennstoffnormung (FAM) (Standardization Committee for petroleum, fuels, lubricants and related products (FAM)) of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN. This document specifies the minimum requirements for lubricating oils C. Lubricating oils C are predominantly recommended for circular and splash lubrication. Lubricating oils C can also be used as hydraulic oils and general lubricating or machine oils. Regarding higher requirements for ageing resistance and/or corrosion protection, lubricating oils CLP in accordance with DIN 51517-3 shall be preferred. When used as lubricants for machine tools, DIN 8659-2 shall also be taken into account.
