Overview

This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 074-02-03 AA "Physikalisch-technische Prüfverfahren für Papier und Pappe" ("Physical-technological test methods for paper and board") at DIN Standards Committee Paper, board and pulps (NPa). Similar to the burst test, the puncture test evaluates a combination of different properties of the tested material. In addition to the recognizable effects of the puncture process, such as piercing, tearing and bending of the specimen, other effects also occur, such as the so-called cushioning effect in corrugated board. DIN 53142 "Testing of board - Puncture test" consists of: Part 1: Pendulum impact testing Part 2: Linear feed testing. This document specifies a linear motion puncture test to determine the resistance of a clamped specimen to penetration by a penetration tool.
