Overview

DIN standards in the watch sector enjoy a high reputation and have become the basis for numerous international standards. For the first time in decades, two completely new watch standards, DIN 8330-1 and -2, have been prepared in NA 027-04-08-01 AK "Aviator watches". DIN 8330-1 "Horology - Aviator watches - Requirements and tests" specifies the requirements and tests for functionally sophisticated, safe and reliable aviator watches. It contains requirements with regard to readability, vibration testing, resistance to fluids typical of aviation, antimagnetic properties, as well as the new requirement for compatibility with night vision devices and their tests. Possible users of DIN 8330-1 are clock and watch manufacturers and aeronautical companies. DIN 8330-2 "Horology - Aviator watches - Evaluation of conformity" specifies the requirements for conformity assessment and can be taken as a basis for product certification. Possible users of DIN 8330-2 are clock and watch manufacturers as well as testing institutes. The standards DIN 8330-1 and -2 underline the international top position of German horology and its claim to further advance the development of technologically sophisticated clocks and watches. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 027-04-08-01 AK "Fliegeruhren" ("Aviator watches") at DIN Standards Committee Optics and Precision Mechanics (NAFuO).
