Overview

This European Standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard applies for: - filling machines with cylinder and piston; - filling machines with feed intake hopper, feeder with or without loading device; - auxiliary machines for filling machines. It does not apply to filling machines with cylinder and manual operation. This European Standard applies to machinery for processing pasty or slightly frozen products (for example meat, cheese), excluding dry or frozen materials. They pump foodstuff into casings or bring it to a following process. This document applies also to the interchangeable equipment or auxiliary machines with the help of which a wide range of additional functions can be implemented. For example: portioning, depositing, mincing, co-extruding, dividing and forming. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to filling machines, connecting devices and auxiliary machines, such as linking and suspension devices, shredding means, forming devices, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer and also the reasonable foreseeable misuse (see Clause 4). These significant hazards, hazardous situations and events can arise during the entire lifetime of the filling machines. This European Standard is applicable to auxiliary machines, attachments and interchangeable equipment. This European Standard is not applicable to filling machines and auxiliary machines which were manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN. Filling machines dealt with in this document are not forming, filling and sealing machines as described in EN 415-3. Clipping machines are not covered by this standard. This European Standard contains the German version of EN 12463:2014 which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 153 "Machinery intended for use with foodstuffs and feed" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from EN 12463:2004+A1:2011 as follows: a) Clause 1: the scope now includes a list of auxiliary machines, attachments and interchangeable equipment and their combinations with a filling machine; the requirements have been moved to the appropriate clauses; the old 1.3 "Intended use" has been moved to 7.4; b) Clause 2: the normative references have been updated; c) Clause 3: terms have been partly merged, revised, supplemented (for example compartment equipment, hanging device, loading device, locking device, machine, auxiliary machine, device, module, interchangeable equipment); uniform use in the standard; d) Clause 4: new presentation in a table; e) Clause 5: extended 5.2 newly overwritten with "Mechanical hazards - General", more detailed requirements in 5.3 with the new heading "Mechanical hazards differentiated by design type" (for example stopping time, hopper edge cover, steps and ladders, static and dynamic testing, auxiliary machines, ergonomic requirements); f) Clause 6: the list of conformity assessment procedures has been updated; g) Clause 7: completion of 7.2 with all of the information referred to in Clause 5, so that operator training and combination of machinery are now included; 7.3 now includes marking of equipment and interchangeable equipment; h) Annexes: the old Annex C "General hazards" has been deleted and transferred to the appropriate Clauses; i) Figures have been partially revised; j) an informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of the standard were represented by Committee NA 060-18-02 AA "Fleischverarbeitungsmaschinen" ("Meat processing machinery") at Technical Section "Food Processing Machinery" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of meat processing machines as well as representatives of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
