Overview

The introduction of the "eCall" pan-European emergency call system is based on an initiative of the European Commission to reduce the number of road fatalities and injuries. The objective of implementing a pan-European in-vehicle emergency call system (eCall) is to automate the notification of a traffic accident anywhere in the European Union according to the same technical standard and with the same quality of service. This European Standard specifies the application requirements for the provision of "eCall" services across a wireless network.
