Overview

The requirements for CMBs (contact memory button) for aerospace industry applications differ considerably from those for other application fields. The parts identified by CMBs are of very high quality and are often used for ten years or longer. Furthermore with regard to qualification, regulations and safety, the aerospace industry is subject to special requirements, which are enforced by aeronautical authorities like EASA, FAA, etcetera. In association with the low quantities, these requirements drive up the pro unit cost of CMBs developed for the aerospace industry. This necessitates a product group of CMBs constructed especially for use in aircraft. DIN EN 4819 is intended to reduce development costs for high performance CMBs manufactured in small quantities. DIN EN 4819 includes: - Provision of a requirements document for manufacturers of CMBs (contact memory button) for the aerospace and defence industries. - Identification of the minimum performance requirements specific to CMBs used on aerospace and defence vehicle parts accessed only during ground operations. - Identification of existing standards applicable to passive CMBs. - Provision of a qualification standard for CMBs which will use permanently-affixed installation on systems. - Provision of some patterns of data. This standard EN 4819:2012 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section General. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. ASD became the associated body (ASB) of CEN by the agreement dated 1986-10-03. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-09 AA "Avionik" ("Avionics") of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN.
