This European Standard has been prepared jointly by Technical Committees CENELEC/TC 86A "Optical fibres and optical fibre cables" and CENELEC/TC 86BXA "Fibre optic interconnect, passive and connectorised components". The detail specification contains a description of parameters which are important for termination of simplex and duplex cables with connectors for various communication applications and for use in controlled and uncontrolled environments (categories C & U). The specification does not differentiate between single- and multimode optical fibre cables for this application. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenleiterkabel" ("Fibres and cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
