Overview

This standard gives guidance on: a) optical measurement of smoke obscuration; b) general aspects of optical smoke test methods; c) consideration of test methods; d) expression of smoke test data; e) relevance of optical smoke data to hazard assessment. The modifications have been incorporated in detail into the existing text of the standard and have been highlighted by trim marks (change bars). The following significant modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 60695-6-1 (VDE 0471-6-1):2006-03: - The terminology has been brought into line with ISO/IEC 13943. - The characteristics of the types of fires have been supplemented in accordance with ISO 19706. - The information on the SMOGRA index has been supplemented. The responsible Committee is K 133 "Prüfverfahren zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektrotechnischen Produkten und Isolierstoffen" ("Test methods for assessing the fire hazard of electrotechnical products and insulating materials") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
