The standard specifies lamps, or information relevant to such lamps, not given elsewhere in existing IEC lamp standards. It contains both safety and operation criteria. With Amendment A2, requirements for fragment retention lamps have been recorded. The Committee responsible for this standard is Subcommittee UK 521.1 "Elektrische Lampen" ("Electric lamps") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
