Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European standard deals with the technical requirements to minimise hazards. These hazards can arise during the operation and maintenance of continuous handling equipment and systems when these activities are carried out in accordance with the specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorized representative. This standard deals with safety-related technical verification during commissioning. This standard applies to mechanical continuous handling devices, singly or combined to form a conveyor system, and designed exclusively for moving unit loads continuously on a predefined route from the loading to the unloading points, possibly with varying speed or cyclically. In general, it also applies to conveyors which are built into machines or attached to machines. Safety requirements and/or measures in this standard apply to equipment used in all environments. However, additional risk assessments and safety measures need to be considered for uses in severe conditions, for example, freezer applications, high temperatures, corrosive environments, strong magnetic fields, potentially explosive atmospheres, radioactive conditions and loads the nature of which could lead to a dangerous situation (for example, molten metal, acids/bases, specially brittle loads, explosives), operation on ships and earthquake effects and also contact with foodstuff. Hazards during decommissioning are not covered. This European Standard deals with the technical requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). This standard contains the German version of EN 619:2002+A1:2010, which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 148 "Continuous handling equipment and systems - Safety" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 619:2003-02: a) The standard has been modified and adapted with respect to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; b) an informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of the standard are represented by Committee NA 060-22-31 AA "Stetigförderer" ("Continuous handling equipment") of Technical Section "Material handling" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of continuous handling equipment as well as representatives of professional and trade associations are involved in the preparation of the standard.
