Overview

Standard EN 9001 includes quality management system requirements and specifies additional civil and military aviation maintenance and continuing airworthiness industry requirements, definitions and notes. It has been developed for maintenance organizations that choose to adopt it, whether or not holders of a National Aviation Authority repair station certificate. This standard is intended for use by maintenance organizations whose primary business is providing maintenance services for aviation commercial and military products; and for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) organizations with maintenance operated autonomously or that are substantially different from their manufacturing/production operations. The standard specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization: a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements; and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. The following modifications have been made with respect to the previous edition DIN EN 9110:2011-02: a) general aim of the revision was to clarify interpretation issues by adding definitions and clarifications of existing requirements. For this purpose the terms airworthy, certified personnel and certifying staff have been added in Clause 3. Various definitions of terms have been revised and/or supplemented as well as various clauses. b) the terms repair and overhaul service have been deleted in favour of the sole use of the term maintenance service, in various places of the standard the term production has been replaced by maintenance. c) the scope has been expanded to maintenance organizations which apply this standard although they are not holders of a National Aviation Authority repair station certificate. Standard EN 9110 has been prepared by the IAQG and was published for Europe by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Quality. Industry has established the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), with representatives from companies in the Americas, Asia/Pacific and Europe, to implement initiatives that make significant improvements in quality and reductions in cost throughout the value stream. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-05-01 AA "Grundlagen und Managementverfahren" ("Basic principles of management processes") at the DIN Standards Committee Aerospace (NL).
