This part of ISO 10079 applies to electrically powered suction equipment for use in healthcare facilities, in the home care of patients, and also to equipment for outdoor use and transport. It specifies minimum requirements for the safety and performance of suction equipment, including test methods, as well as requirements for labelling and manufacturer's information. Compared to the previous edition, there has been a fundamental revision and restructuring. The standard is no longer based on the structure of DIN EN 60601-1 with the general specifications for safety including the essential performance characteristics for medical electrical equipment. The standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 121/SC 8 "Suction devices" (secretariat: SA, Australia) in cooperation with CEN/TC 215 "Respiratory and anaesthetic equipment" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom). The responsible national committee is Working Committee NA 053-03-01 AA "Anästhesie und Beatmung" ("Anaesthesia and respiration") at DIN Standards Committee Rescue Services and Hospital (NARK).
