The ISO 16120-1 to -4 series of standards specifies requirements for wire rod of non-alloy steel intended for wire drawing and/or cold rolling. The revision of the 2011 versions has been decided in the International Standards Committee ISO/TC 17/SC 17 "Steel wire rod and wire products" with the aim of adapting the technical content of the standards to market requirements. The current revision concerns: Part 1: General requirements, Part 2: Specific requirements for general purpose wire rod and Part 4: Specific requirements for wire rod for special applications, of the above series of standards. All 3 parts listed above will be revised using the ISO/CEN parallel process. The future versions of the ISO standards will therefore be adopted as European Standards without any changes. The responsible European standardization committee is ECISS/C 106 "Wire rod and wires". Of the most important changes, the following are mentioned: Revision of the specifications on the deviations in tensile strength in wire rod and the inclusion of a new clause for the determination and classification of the cementite network in wire rod with increased carbon content. The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee 08/2 "Walzdraht zum Ziehen" ("Wire rod for conversion to wire") at DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
This document replaces DIN EN ISO 16120-1:2011-10 .
