Overview

This standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machines placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate the demonstration of conformity with these requirements. This International Standard addresses all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events listed in Clause 4 that apply to NC boring machines, NC routing machines and combined NC boring and routing machines (as described in 3.2.1) - hereinafter referred to as "machines" - that are designed to machine wood and materials with similar physical characteristics to wood, when they are operated, adjusted and maintained as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. Also, transport, assembly, dismantling, disabling and scrapping phases have been taken into account. This International Standard is also applicable to machines fitted with: - additional working units for sawing, sanding, assembling or dowel inserting; - fixed or movable workpiece support; - mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or vacuum workpiece clamping; - automatic tool change devices. This International Standard does not address the specific hazards related to: a) edge banding equipment fitted to the machine; b) the use of grinding wheels; c) the ejection of milling and/or grinding tools through openings on machines where the distance between the workpiece support and the lower edge of the partial enclosure exceeds 400 mm; d) the combination of a single machine with any other machine (as part of a line); e) the need to climb on or into the machine body due to its large dimensions, for example on machines for machining wooden walls to adjust clamping elements. This International Standard does not apply to: 1) single spindle hand fed or integrated fed routing machines; 2) machines intended for use in potentially explosive atmosphere. This International standard applies to machines manufactured after the date of issue of this International Standard. This standard incorporates the German version of FprEN ISO 19085-3:2016 prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 39/SC 4 "Woodworking machines" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
