A test such as is specified in ISO 5659-2 deals only with a simple representation of a particular aspect of the potential fire situation, typified by a radiant heat source, and it cannot alone provide any direct guidance on behaviour or safety in fire. A test of this type may, however, be used for comparative purposes or to ensure the existence of a certain quality of performance (in this case, smoke production) considered to have a bearing on fire behaviour generally. It would be wrong to attach any other meaning to results from this test. This standard differs from DIN EN ISO 5659-1:1999-09 and DIN EN ISO 5659-2:2007-04 as follows: a) the standard has been editorially revised; b) the principles of the test method have been modified; c) the size of the specimens has been changed; d) Figure 1 "Test apparatus" has been revised and supplemented; e) the tolerances in 6.5 "Conditioning" have been changed; f) clause 10 "Test procedure" has been modified. This document (ISO 5659-2:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61 "Plastics", in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 249 "Plastics" (secretariat: Belgium). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 054-01-05 AA "Brandverhalten" ("Burning behaviour") at the Plastics Standards Committee (FNK) at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN ISO 5659-1:1999-09 , DIN EN ISO 5659-2:2007-04 .
