The standard provides suppliers, developers and operators with support in the use of emulation in automatic storage and conveying technology. Emulation means the reproduction of a system which receives the same data, executes the same programs and achieves the same results as the original system. For this purpose, the real storage and conveyor technology is replaced by a computer program for testings. However, for emulation, the system is not connected until the real control technology (e.g. PLC, material flow calculator, or storage management computer) is connected to the virtual model. Thus, it is possible to test and optimize the software of the control system before the system is actually erected. Particularly in the case of time-critical modernizations, this technology can enable faster processing and, above all, a secure conversion.
