The 40 years of development for a successful endodontics has led to the situation that nowadays higher precision and an ergonomically relaxed behaviour are possible. Modern endodontics can in many cases provide a favourable prognosis for long-term dental tooth preservation - and work is considerably easier than five or ten years ago. The introduction of rotary nickel-titanium instruments in endodontic treatment has made the mechanical preparation of root canal systems much easier. Slightly curved root canals can be widened with them in a very short time and subjected to chemical disinfection. Nevertheless, the use of hand instruments is still justified. Standardized endodontic instruments make an important contribution to modern endodontics. This part of the standard specifies general requirements and test methods for endodontic instruments for endodontic applications that have not yet been described in other parts of the DIN EN ISO 3630 series. Part 3 describes requirements and test methods for compactors. This document contains requirements for size, product designation, safety instructions, marking and packaging. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 4/WG 9 "Endodontic instruments" (secretariat: ANSI, USA) together with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible Working Committee is NA 014-00-04 AA "Rotierende Instrumente" ("Rotary instruments") at DIN Standards Committee Dentistry (NADENT).
This document replaces DIN EN ISO 3630-3:1996-08 .
